 Echoes #2
Book of the week!
Echoes (#2) – 9/10
A step further down into the disturbing psyche of a crazy man with a thing for skin dolls. High-tension scenes and deft pacing.
Carnage (#2) – 8/10
Stunning artwork slick with realism makes the threat of the new Carnage all the more terrifying.
Teen Titans (#652) – 8/10
A satisfying ending to a dynamic story inducting Damian into the Teen Titans.
Age of X: Alpha (#2) – 7/10
An interesting prelude showcasing the main players in the upcoming Age of X event.

Reviews in 140: The Amazing Spider-Man, Morning Glories, Infinite Vacation

Week of 1/19/2011

Reviews in 140 are comic reviews in 140 characters or less; done this way to satisfy a world of Twitter-fied readers who want a quick overview of a comic and a rating so they can decide if it’s worth buying at the store each week.

Book of the week!

Infinite Vacation (#1) – 8/10
A high concept story with colorful art that makes your eyes melt with joy. If the story doesn’t get weighed down by brainy stuff, I’m in.
Morning Glories (#6) – 7/10
Instead of the new mystery being solved we get another character and a reveal that is more of a head-scratcher than a mouth-dropper.
The Amazing Spider-Man (#652) – 6.5/10
For beings called Spider Slayers, Smythe and co. sure have a hard time slaying anyone, or appearing menacing in any way.

Review in 140: Teen Titans, Batman and Robin, Daredevil: Reborn, Morning Glories, Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors, The Amazing Spider-Man

Review in 140 are comic reviews in 140 characters or less; done this way to satisfy a world of Twitter-fied readers who want a quick overview of a comic and a rating so they can decide if it’s worth buying at the store each week.

Week of 1/12/2011

Book of the week!

Teen Titans (#90) – 8.5/10 – Damian continues to be the highlight of the story, especially his bond with Renegade, who before seemed determined to be an outsider.

Batman and Robin (#19) – 4/10 – The odd-shaped characters are as bad as the odd-sounding dialog. The Absense tries to be smart and deep but comes off contrived and hollow.

Daredevil: Reborn (#1) – 7/10 – A quick turnaround compared to other major rise/fall stories. Gets back to the origins of the character and that’s what makes it compelling.

Morning Glories (#5) – 8/10 – Answers continue to trickle in and another mystery pops up, but the vivid, unique characters stop that from being bothersome.

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors (# 6) – 7/10 – Bleez rivals Larfleeze for best comedic Lantern, and a creepy confrontation with the bad guy.

The Amazing Spider-Man (#651) – 5/10 – Spidey uses his lame Tron suit to earn an uninteresting conclusion to the Hobgoblin arc, but the extra with new Scorpion is intriguing.
